General Information

A 30 ml plastic vial contains purified mummies in sufficient quantity to yield 250 adults of Aphelinus abdominalis. This tiny wasp will sting and parasitise young stages of aphids such as Macrosiphum euphorbiae and Aulacorthum solani. Aphelinus abdominalis adults feed on younger aphid instars contributing to overall control.
Release weekly at low rates as winged aphids appear in the crop. If colonies become established, make localised hotspot treatments or intervene at the economic threshold with a selective aphicide (eg pymetrozine, pirimicarb.) If aphids are suspected of transmitting virus or populations are high, use pymetrozine or pirimicarb (depending on local registrations) before releasing Aphelinus abdominalis. Do not spray between release and mummy formation.

Instructions for use

Use at the rate of 0.2-0.5 adult per square metre for preventative use. One 30 ml vial is sufficient for 500-1250 square m. Dose rate may be increased 5-fold for hot spots. Open in the greenhouse. Walk around the area to be treated, holding the open bottle at a 45° angle, releasing the emerged adults into the air. Distribute the adults evenly over the area. Recap the tube and store at greenhouse temperature until more adults have hatched. Repeat the distribution of adults daily for 2-4 days until most adults have emerged from the bottle. Finish by placing the open tube in the greenhouse horizontally next to a plant in case more hatch.

Storage and transport

Transport and store at 6-8°C. Keep out of direct sunlight. Use within 18 hours of receipt
