Syngenta Bioline Bees are producers of bumblebees used to pollinate a wide range of crops such as tomatoes and soft fruit
The principal crops where the company uses its products are covered salad vegetables, soft fruit and ornamentals.
Syngenta Bioline is active throughout Europe, and in North America and Japan. The company was founded in 1979 in Colchester, England. It was purchased by Ciba-Geigy AG in December 1992 and became a wholly owned subsidiary in 1995. After the merger of Ciba and Sandoz in 1996, the company became known as Novartis BCM Limited. In 1999 with the help of investments by Novartis, a new site in Little Clacton, England was purchased and customised for insect production to cope with the increase in demand for beneficial insects. Then, in November 2000, Novartis spun off its agricultural business to merge with Zeneca Agrochemicals to form Syngenta (http://www.syngenta.com), and Novartis BCM became known as Syngenta Bioline in January 2001
Syngenta Bioline now has four production sites in the UK, USA, The Netherlands and Africa.
